Weingarten (Württemberg)
Weingarten (German for vine garden) is a city in Württemberg, in the district Ravensburg, in the valley of the Schussen river. Together with the southern neighbour city Ravensburg and Friedrichshafen form it one of 14 upper centers in Baden-Württemberg. Weingarten is seat of an educational university and professional school.
History
The town has the name Weingarten only since the 19. century. It received the name from a monastery, which was dissolved during the secularization. Before the place had been called Altdorf.
