Water Margin

One of the "Big Four" in classical Chinese literature, Water Margin (Shui2 Hu3 Zhuan4) details the trials and tribulations of the 108 Outlaw Heroes of the Marsh.

The Water Margin was a successful Japanese television adaptation of the story, which was sold to many other countries. The setting of these legendary stories is ancient China of the Sung dynasty. Brave men and women were forced into the water margins of Liang Shan Po by corrupt leaders. They gradually grow into an army of heroes.
