Warren County is a county located in the U.S. State of Iowa. As of 2000, the population is 40,671. Its county seat is Indianola, Iowa6.
Geography
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 1,485 km² (573 mi²). 1,481 km² (572 mi²) of it is land and 4 km² (2 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.27% water.
Demographics
As of the census2 of 2000, there are 40,671 people, 14,708 households, and 11,207 families residing in the county. The population density is 27/km² (71/mi²). There are 15,289 housing units at an average density of 10/km² (27/mi²). The racial makeup of the county is 98.08% White, 0.27% Black or African American, 0.17% Native American, 0.38% Asian, 0.04% Pacific Islander, 0.29% from other races, and 0.76% from two or more races. 1.08% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 14,708 households out of which 37.80% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 64.50% are married couples living together, 8.80% have a female householder with no husband present, and 23.80% are non-families. 19.90% of all households are made up of individuals and 8.70% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older.
