Virgin Atlantic
Virgin Atlantic Airways Limited, usually referred to as Virgin Atlantic, is a British airline founded by Sir Richard Branson that first flew on June 22, 1984, utilizing a single Boeing 747 on scheduled service between London and New York. Now consisting of a large number of widebody aircraft servicing long-haul markets around the globe, Virgin Atlantic is the flagship organization under the Virgin brand, and competes with British Airways for the title of "most prestigious airline" based in London.
49% of Virgin Atlantic was sold to Singapore Airlines in December 1999 for £1.225bn. The airline also has six Airbus A380s on order and due to be delivered in 2006.
VS is the IATA Designator of the airline, which flies to the United States, the Caribbean, Africa and Asia.
