Vanden Plas is the name of a company of coach builders for specialist and up-market automobile manufacturers. It originated in Belgium in 1870. The name derives from the Dutch, and to be grammatically correct should be expressed "Van Der Plas".
In 1946 Vanden Plas became a subsidiary of the Austin Motor Company, which is now part of MG Rover. The North American rights to the name have been sold on and reside with the Jaguar division of Ford. Both companies use the name to distinguish up-market variants of models.
