Valerie Davey

Valerie Davey (born April 16, 1940) is the Labour Member of Parliament for Bristol West in England. She won the seat at the 1997 general election, displacing the cabinet minister William Waldegrave.

Born in Surrey, Davey studied theology at the University of Birmingham and gained a PGCE at the University of London Institue of Education before teaching in Wolverhampton, Tanzania and Bristol. She was an Avon County Councillor from 1981 until the county's abolition in 1996 and was Labour group leader from 1992. She was also a governor of various schools and of Bristol Polytechnic. She is a member of the House of Commons Education and Skills Committee.
