United States Constitution Party
The Constitution Party is a minor political party in the United States. The party was founded in 1992 as the U.S. Taxpayers Party. They changed the name to Constitution Party in 1999. Many state affiliate parties have different names. Some have kept the Taxpayers Party name in order to retain ballot status. Notably, in California, the affiliate party uses the name American Independent Party in order to have affiliated registered voters who believe they have not affiliated with any party, accounting for nearly all the Constitution Party's registered voters.
Agenda
The party pursues a right wing agenda, holding that United States law is based on Biblical law and urging the abolition of the federal income tax.
Platform
The party holds that the United States is a Christian country, the United States Constitution is based on the Bible, and that the United States Constitution should be followed strictly. They support reducing the role of the United States federal government through drastic reductions in taxes, spending, and regulation, as well as reducing the role the United States plays in supernational entities, such as the United Nations.
