Tuolomne River

The Tuolomne River is located in California with its headwaters in the northern half of Yosemite National Park. The Tuolomne River is a slightly larger twin of the Merced River. Through successive Ice ages, glaciers carved valleys for both the Merced River and the Tuolomne River through what is now Yosemite National Park.

The Tuolomne Valley has been turned into the Hetch Hetchy Reservoir. Water is diverted by the Hetch Hetchy dam and the Don Pedro dam to serve farms in the Modesto Irrigation District and Turlock Irrigation district, and cities in the San Francisco Bay Area. Electric power from the dams supplies these areas as well.

The Modesto Airport lies next to the Tuolomne River. Between the airport and the river lies Veterans' Park. This park is the site of the annual Trans-Valley League high-school cross-country running meet.
