Tryptamines are a family of chemical substances that are frequently found in nature, and are an important component of neurological functioning. Tryptamines are characterized by their indole structure. Several plants also contain substances in the tryptamine family. The most well-known tryptamine is serotonin, an important neurotransmitter.
