Tokyu

The Tokyo Kyuko Electric Railway (東京急行電鉄 Tokyo Kyuko Dentetsu), better known as Tokyu, is a major private railway operator in Tokyo, Japan. Its headquarters are in Shibuya, Tokyo.

It was formed on September 2, 1922 as the Meguro-Kamata Electric Railway, and was later known as the Tokyo-Yokohama Electric Railway before gaining its current name in 1943. From 1944 to 1948, it also owned the companies now known as the Keihin Kyuko Electric Railway, Keio Electric Railway, and Odakyu Electric Railway. During this time, it was colloquially known as Dai-Tokyu ("Great Tokyu").

Lines

Note: The Tokyu Toyoko Line ran to Sakuragicho in Yokohama until the start of through service to the new Minato Mirai Line on February 1, 2004.

Other businesses

The Tokyu Corporation also owns a bus company (Tokyu Bus) and a major department store chain.
