The Cult is a Britishpunk rock, heavy metal, and grunge band originally formed in 1982 as Southern Death Cult and later Death Cult before settling on their current name.
Their front man Ian Astbury later sang in place of the deceased Jim Morrison in gigs by the reformed Doors in the early 21st century.
