Sue Rodriguez

Sue Rodriguez (-February 12, 1994) was a Victoria, British Columbia, Canadian woman, diagnosed with ALS in early 1992, who fought for the legal right to die, which is punishable under the Criminal Code of Canada for a maximum sentence of 14 years in prison, in the Supreme Court of Canada, but ultimately lost both battles. On September 3, 1993, the SCOC voted 5-4 against her case. She decided to take her own life with the help of an anonymous physician and with New Democratic Party Member of Parliament of the Canadian House of Commons Svend Robinson present. Robinson was a popular supporter of her cause. A 1998 film, with actress Wendy Crewson as Ms. Rodriguez, called At the End of the Day: The Sue Rodriguez Story, was also made.
