South End
South End is an old Victorian neighborhood of Boston, Massachusetts, consisting mostly of 5 story brownstones. Most of the buildings were built from the 1840s to the late 1800s.
Housing has become extremely expensive by American and Bostonian standards, with one-bedroom apartments starting at around $400,000 and townhouses selling at upwards of $1.2 million in 2004.
The neighborhood is in the center of Boston, immediately south of the Back Bay. It is a short walk to most of the central city.
The South End population is quite diverse and is composed of gays, wealthy urban professionals, African-Americans, and Hispanics.
The neighborhood is known for its excellent restaurants, and for being the hub of the Boston gay scene.
