Sigur Ros
Sigur Rós is an Icelandic avant-garde rock and roll band, formed in Reykjavik in 1994, while the band's members were teenagers. Jon Þor Birgisson (guitarist/vocalist), Georg Holm (bass guitar) and Agust (drums) won a record deal with Bad Taste, a local label, and released Von (which translates as "Hope") in 1997, followed very quickly by a remix collection, Recycle Bin. The band hired Kjartan Sveinsson (keyboard) for Ágætis Byrjun (1999; "good start") to critical acclaim and some popular fanfare, mostly in the United Kingdom. By the end of 2000, Sigur Rós' popularity had grown and the band was playing with Radiohead and other big names. In 2002, the band released ( ).
