Geography
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 1,082 km² (418 mi²). 1,060 km² (409 mi²) of it is land and 22 km² (9 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 2.06% water.
Demographics
As of the census2 of 2000, there are 61,792 people, 23,717 households, and 16,957 families residing in the county. The population density is 58/km² (151/mi²). There are 25,253 housing units at an average density of 24/km² (62/mi²). The racial makeup of the county is 92.20% White, 2.67% Black or African American, 0.13% Native American, 0.29% Asian, 0.01% Pacific Islander, 3.10% from other races, and 1.61% from two or more races. 6.96% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 23,717 households out of which 33.30% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 56.50% are married couples living together, 10.50% have a female householder with no husband present, and 28.50% are non-families. 24.10% of all households are made up of individuals and 10.60% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older.
