Richard Wilson
Richard Wilson (born July 9, 1936) is a British actor and theatre director, best known for playing the role of Victor Meldrew in the popular BBC situation comedy One Foot in the Grave.
He was born as Ian Colquhoun Wilson (or Iain Richard Wilson, according to an Internet Movie Database page) in Greenock, Renfrewshire, Scotland. When he went into acting, he had to change his name due to another actor already called Ian Wilson.
In 1994, Richard Wilson was awarded the OBE for services to drama as a director and actor.
In 1996, he was elected Rector of the University of Glasgow for a period of three years. He was to be installed at a ceremony to be held on 24th April that year.
TV
He appeared as the Duke of Edinburgh in "Jeffrey Archer: The Truth", a television comedy drama written by Guy Jenkin, which was first shown on BBC1 on the evening of Sunday 1st December 2002.
