Renting

Renting is an agreement where a payment is made for the temporary use of something owned by someone else. Examples:
  • a form of housing tenure where the person who lives in the house is a tenant paying rent to a landlord who owns it.
  • video, DVD, CD, CD-ROM
    • If you don't want to pay a lot to own a video or DVD permanently, you can pay a small amount (usually two or three UK pounds a night) to rent it just for a day or two. You'll probably need to set up an account at your local video shop. Video shops often want to see some form of photo ID plus a couple of proofs of where you live - like bills with your address on.
  • car, bike, boat
  • tool

Renting can, in various degrees, involve buying services, e.g. staying in a hotel, using a computer in an internet cafe, etc.
