Pinckney treaty

Pinckney's Treaty (named after Thomas Pinckney) or the Treaty of San Lorenzo (October 27, 1795) was between the United States and Spain and negotiated by US minister to Britain Thomas Pinckney. Spain recognized the southern boundary of the United States at the thirty-first parallel (31 degrees N latitute). The treaty also allowed Americans to freely use the Mississippi River and to land goods at the port of New Orleans tax-free. In addition, in the treaty, both the US and Spain, agreed that they would control Indians, preventing them from attacking each other's territory.
