Neisseria gonorrhoeae
Neisseria is a genus of bacteria, included among the proteobacteria, a large group of gram-negative forms.
One species, N. gonorrhoeae (also known as gonococcus), is responsible for the disease gonorrhoea.
Another pathogenic species is N. meningitidis, also known as meningococcus, probably the most common cause of bacterial meningitis.
