Montevideo

This article is about the capital of Uruguay. There is also Montevideo, Minnesota, in the United States of America.

Montevideo (1.3 million inhabitants) is the capital and largest city of Uruguay.

Montevideo is situated in the south of the country, at the Río de la Plata.

The city was founded in 1717 as a fort by the Portuguese, but was captured by Spanish troops 7 years later. In 1828, the town became the capital of Uruguay.
