According to some historians [names?], a number of ethnic conflicts in former parts of the British Empire were caused, in whole or in part, by the imperial divide and rule policies.

• Native Melanesians v. Indo-Fijians (Fiji)
• The Sinhalese v. the Tamils (Sri Lanka)
• The Burmans v. the Karens (Myanmar)
• The Burmans v. Mon (Myanmar)
• Partition of the Pashtun (Afghanistan and Pakistan)
• The Kurds split between Turkey, Syria, Iraq and Iran.
• The Arabss v. the Jews (Palestine and Israel)

Some countries were artificially made up of warring tribes, with the purpose to make them weak.
