Johnny Belinda
Johnny Belinda is a 1948 film which tells the story of a deaf mute woman who is raped, becomes pregnant, and then is ruled "unfit" to care for the child. When the local townspeople come to take the baby to give it to the rapist to raise, the woman shoots and kills him and goes on trial for murder. It stars Jane Wyman, Lew Ayres, Charles Bickford, Agnes Moorehead, Stephen McNally and Jan Sterling.
The movie was adapted by Allen Vincent and Irma von Cube from the play by Elmer Harris. It was directed by Jean Negulesco.
