Joey Grimaldi

Joey Grimaldi, or “Iron Legs” 18 December 1778 in Stanhope Street, Clare Market, died 1837, Clown.

His father was italian and his performance reminded of Commedia dell’ Arte.

He is widely hailed as the founding father of modern clowns, the pantomime. He has performed often at Sadler’s Wells Theatre.

Some people have claimed that Grimaldi himself was responsible for another source of terror: Frankenstein’s monster.
