Jerrycan

The term jerrycan is used to describe a particular kind of fuel container made from pressed steel. It originates from the First World War, when the British military were equipped with poor quality tin fuel cans. The German forces made use of far superior pressed steel fuel cans. When these cans were found in captured trenches, the British used and began producing copies of them. A popular term for the Germans at the time was 'Jerry', hence the cans were refered to as jerrycans. Today, the term jerrycan is often used to mean any metal fuel can.
