Hiroko Ai

Hiroko Ai is a fictional character from Kim Stanley Robinson's science fiction trilogy, Red Mars. She is one of the First 100 sent to Mars aboard the spacecraft Ares. The youngest member of the crew, she is a Japanese expert on biological, agricultural, and ecological systems. She is never the focus of the narrative, but her presence is central in a manner akin to Harry Lime in The Third Man or John Galt in Atlas Shrugged.
