Eureka

Eureka is a famous exclamation attributed by Archimedes, when he suddenly understood buoyancy. "Eureka" is a simple form of the verb heuriskein, meaing "to find;" it means "I have found it!"

The expression is quoted as the state motto of California, referring to the momentous discovery of gold near Sutter's Mill in 1848.

Several places in the United States of America are named for the expression:

There is also Eureka Springs, Arkansas.

It is also the name of an asteroid co-orbital with Mars, 5261 Eureka (see also 3753 Cruithne)

It is also the name of the European Union's research and development organization, see EUREKA.

This is a disambiguation page; that is, one that just points to other pages that might otherwise have the same name. If you followed a link here, you might want to go back and fix that link to point to the appropriate specific page.
