Dodsworth

Dodsworth is a novel by Sinclair Lewis, published in 1929. It was made into a film in 1936.

It is the story of a retired automobile tycoon and his wife. Despite her husband's affection, she falls in with a crowd of frivolous socialites during their European vacation. He, in turn, meets a woman who is everything his wife is not: self-assured, self-confident, and able to take care of herself.

The film was adapted from the novel and from a play by Sidney Howard. Howard adapted it for the screen. It was directed by William Wyler.

The film stars Walter Huston, Ruth Chatterton, Paul Lukas, Mary Astor, David Niven and Maria Ouspenskaya.

The movie was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Picture and has been selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry.
