Chu Mei-feng

Chu Mei-feng, (璩美鳳 born 1966) is the former director of Hsinchu, Taiwan's Bureau of Cultural Affairs. She is noted for her outspokenness, sharp-wittedness, and beauty.

Chu campaigned with the Taiwan New Party (NP) for election to the Legislative Yuan and was seen as a threat to the incumbent Shen Chih-hui, despite a string of high-profile relationships including one with Hsinchu's mayor, Tsai Jen-chien, who was ten years older than she and a member of the rival Democratic Progressive Party (DPP).

On December 17, 2001, the tabloid Scoop Weekly published a lengthy story about Chu's alleged promiscuity and distributed a video taken secretly with a pinhole camera that purportedly shows Chu having sex with a married man. The video is sold on Video CDs as uncensored pornographic movie in the gray market in Hong Kong. Chu sued the tabloid for libel on December 31. Taiwan's Civil Code protects human rights including the right to privacy, and allows someone to bring a suit for emotional damages. Various sections of it also make crimes of violating a person's privacy for profit, distributing indecent material, and some forms of libel.
