The California State Assembly is the lower house of the CaliforniaState Legislature. There are 80 members of the State Assembly. The state legislature meets in the state capital, Sacramento.
Assemblymembers serve two year terms and face election in years evenly divisible by two. For the 2003-2004 session, there are 48 Democrats and 32 Republicans in the Assembly.
