CASP
CASP, which stands for Critical Assessment of Techniques for Protein Structure Prediction, is a contest for protein structure prediction taking place every two years. The most recent CASP was CASP5 in summer 2003.
The goal of CASP is to provide research groups with an opportunity to assess the quality of their methods for protein structure prediction from the primary structure of the protein. Protein structures that have been recently resolved, but not published, are used as targets for the evaluation. If the given sequence is close to proteins with known structure, comparative protein modelling is used to predict the tertiary structure. Otherwise, de novo protein structure prediction is applied. The results [1] of CASP are divided into these groups. CASP5 also contained an assessment of fold recognition. Earlier CASP contests also addressed secondary structure prediction.
