Battersea, London, England

Battersea is part of the London Borough of Wandsworth. Up until 1965 it was a borough in its own right. It is famous for Battersea Power Station an impressive, but disused edifice designed by Sir Giles Gilbert Scott (featured, with flying pig, on the sleeve art of Pink Floyd's album 'Animals'), Battersea Park, Battersea Dog's Home and London's busiest heliport. An overspill from fashionable Chelsea has dramatically changed the character of Battersea in the last 25 years. Up until the mid 1970s much of Battersea was industrial and working class residential. The factories have all been demolished and mainly replaced with luxury apartment buildings. Many of the council owned properties have been sold off. The traditional working men's pubs have become fashionable bistros.
