Arthur R. Kantrowitz

Arthur R. Kantrowitz is an American engineer Born in 1913.

Kantrowitz earned his earned his B.S., M.A., and, in 1947, his Ph.D. degrees in physics from Columbia University. He worked as a physicist for the NACA from 1936 to 1946. He then taught at Cornell University for the next ten years, while founding the Avco-Everett Research Lab in Everett, Massachusetts, in 1955. He served as its director, senior executive officer, and chairman until 1978 when he took on a professorship at Dartmouth University. From 1956 to 1978 he also served as a vice president and director of Avco Corporation.

Kantrowitz is a fellow of the, American Academy of Arts and Sciences, American Association for the Advancement of Science, American Astronautical Society, American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (an honorary fellow) , American Physical Society, National Academy of Engineering (member), National Academy of Sciences (member).

Kantrowitz holds 21 patents, has authored or coauthored more than 200 scientific and professional papers and articles.

Kantrowitz also serves on the Board of Advisors for the Foresight Institute, an organization devoted to preparing for nanotechnology.
