Amber Room

The Amber Room (German Bernsteinzimmer) was a complete chamber decoration of amber panels which for its precious material and artistic carving was once called the "eighth wonder of the world." It was presented by Prussia to Russia in 1716, and in 1755 was installed in the Catherine Palace in Tsarskoye Selo, near St. Petersburg.

In 1941, during World War II, German troops transported it to Königsberg (now Kaliningrad). There has been no trace of it since the war. Its fate remains a mystery.

In 2003 a replica of the Amber Room was completed.
