Alkmaar
Alkmaar (population 95,000) is a city in the north-western Netherlands, in the province of North Holland.
The municipality also comprises the following towns, villages and townships: Koedijk, Oudorp.
Alkmaar was granted city rights in 1254, and is nowadays mostly known for its Edam cheese markets.
The professional football team AZ is based in Alkmaar.
