Adaptation (2002 movie)
Adaptation. is a 2002 film. It was directed by Spike Jonze and written by Charlie Kaufman. Nicholas Cage plays Kaufman, the screenwriter, who is having problems turning a book by Susan Orlean, The Orchid Thief, into a movie. Meanwhile, Charlie's twin brother, Donald (also Cage), wants to be a screenwriter as well. Where real life ends and adaptation begins is a question as Orlean herself (Meryl Streep) and the orchid thief, John Laroche (Chris Cooper), are drawn into the story.
Whilst Orlean, Laroche, and Charlie Kaufman are most definitely real, as is The Orchid Thief, Donald Kaufman is an invention of Charlie, as are many of the other events in the film.
Academy award win for Cooper (Supporting Actor), nominations for Cage (Best Actor), Streep (Best Supporting Actress), Kaufman (Adapted Screenplay).
