Adam Goodes

Adam Goodes, Australian Football League player, is a quiet achiever from the North Ballarat. Goodes was recruited to the Sydney Swans at the end of 1999. He played some senior football in 2000 but in 2001 his real potential was seen in a few matches. He played all 44 games for both seasons.

However, his position at the Swans was said to be at the cross roads at the end of 2002 due to his inconsistancy. Coach Rodney Eade would put him in pressure situations week in week out and it took its toll on Goodes's frame of mind.

In an effort of sheer determination in the 2003 season, he played a major part in the Swans premlimanry final birth. His pace along with his great height and knowledge of the game blossomed and flourished during the whole season. Under new coach Paul Roos, the Swans were back to their all time best.

The Swans did not make the grand final (beaten by Brisbane in the prelim) but had an overall solid season.

Goodes would go on to win the 2003 Brownlow medal (with joint winners Nathan Buckley and Mark Riccoiuto). He also made All-Australian ruck man for the first time in his career. A real tribute to a turn around season that was a personal success.
