Dr. Azel Ames of Marshfield, Massachusetts (Chelsea, MA 16 May 1845- Danvers, MA, 12 Nov. 1908), best known today for writing THE MAY-FLOWER AND HER LOG (1907). Descendant of several Mayflower passengers and a noted physician and genealogist. Also wrote SEX IN INDUSTRY: A PLEA FOR THE WORKING-GIRL (1875), among others. Traveled throughout Puerto Rico with medical students in the 1890s, successfully innoculating entire population of the island against smallpox. A grandson (b. 1945) is the last in six generations bearing the name.
