Wrote a wonderful series of books in early 1890s relating to his wanderings around the south west of France. These books evoke a lost time, the charm, simplicity and poverty of life in the French countryside a quarter century before the First World War Wayfaring in France (1890) Wanderings by Southern Waters (1893) Two Summers in Guyenne (1894)
