Marie L Shedlock was born in Boulogne in 1854, the daughter of the Reverend John Shedlock MA (Secretary of the Evangelical Continental Society) and his wife Emma Louisa nee Down. The family originated in Westminster (London, Middlesex) Her obituary appeared in the 'Times' on p.17 for Jan 21st 1935.
Marie had several brothers and sisters among whom were John South Shedlock, a distinguished music historian and critic and Emma Louisa Shedlock, a Professor of Music in London. Her cousin John David Shedlock emigrated to New York in about 1870, married Elizabeth Norton and practiced as a lawyer in Brooklyn.
