Anna Balmer MYers was born in Manheim, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, the town in which Henry William Stiegel of "I Lift My Lamp" built his glassworks. She was educated in the Manheim public schools and at Drexel INstitute in Philadelphia.
The author has written verse for many years. But her fiction writing began with "Patchwork," a book about the Pennsylvania Dutch, published in 1920. Well received, this work was soon followed by "Amanda" and "The Madonna of the Curb."
Miss Myers then began her long task of research on the background for "I Lift My Lamp." She delved deeply into the records of the Lancaster Country Historical Society and the Pennsylvania Historical Society, among other archives. She wrote and read to various groups an article on "Stiegel and His Glass," exhibiting jewelry set with gems cut from colored lumps of glass excavated on the site of the glassworks in Manheim. Her readings were given mainly to patriotic groups, among them the Daughters of the American Colonists and DAughters of the American Revolution, in which societies Miss Myers has held offices. The authro has also helped to organize the Philadelphia Bran ch of the National League of American Pen Women.
I am not sure when she was born or died.
